Survive till January

Seven points from as many Premier League games is definitely not a good result for Rovers and they need to improve very quickly in order to avoid the relegation fight. (premiership standings) In all fairness we couldn’t expect much more form Sam Allardyce’s side this season after they failed to reinforce the squad over the summer. The starting 11 now boasts some new players but they don’t actually have the quality to make a difference.

Blackburn have brought quite a few players this summer but I feel they could have done much better. Jacobsen, Chimbonda and Salgado are experienced players but they are well past their prime and I don’t think they can help this team a great deal. On the other hand, Nzonzi, Kalinic and Hoilett have shown some potential but they will need at least a year before start playing their best football. This basically means that Big Sam will have to mostly rely on the team from last season, and he must be over the moon for having Dunn, Emerton and Grella back in full fitness. It is these very good midfielders, who missed the big part of last season, that can make the difference and they need to stay fit throughout the season if Rovers are to stand any chance of avoiding the drop. Blackburn are also struggling for goals at the moment and they desperately need to sign one true marksman in January. (Blackburn goals)

Benny McCarthy, Cherno Samba and Ryan Nelsen have also missed a couple of games lately but they should return to full fitness during the international break (the next rival is Burnley. Blackburn – Burnley odds), thus the boss could have full squad to choose from after quite a while. This could be crucial for Rovers’ chances this season as Big Sam desperately need to have the best starting 11 available at all times, since the back-up players lack some quality to play in the Premiership. Obviously, the club will need to allocate the boss more funds in January in order to additionally boost the squad but Rovers will have to do much better job than they did this summer.

To sum it up, I am pretty sure experienced manager like Sam Allardyce will get the maximum out of his players and he is definitely the man who can ensure them another season of Premiership football

Sam Allardyce is building a new team

blekburn90x90Blackburn experienced big problems last season and it was definitely one of the most stressful seasons in club’s recent history. Paul Ince struggled to get the best out of his team and he was sacked after leading the club to the relegation zone. To be honest, Ince had big problems with injured players and that was one of the reasons for the poor results. Experienced Sam Allardyce was brought as a replacement and he managed to save the team from the drop, but that happened after a lot of hard work. Big Sam was aware that his team needed major rebuilding for the next season and he acted accordingly.
Roque Santa Cruz and Matt Derbyshire were sold to Manchester City and Olympiakos respectively, while Aaron Mokoena and Andre Ooijer left on free transfer. Having earned a lot of money from selling Santa Cruz, Big Sam started reinforcing the squad. Gael Givet was sign on permanent basis after impressing while on loan at Ewood Park, while Everton defender Lars Jackobsen also joined the club. Rovers showed they were thinking about the future by signing promising midfielders, Elrio Van Heerden and Steven N’Zonzi. None of these are actually world class players but they will increase competition for places, while I have no doubts that more players will follow. Steven Reid and Brett Emerton, who spent the big part of the season on sidelines, are likely to be ready for the next season and that will be a big boost for the team.

Blackburn will be looking to avoid the relegation fight this season but the team still lack some strength in depth. This is precisely why Allardyce is eager to bring as many players as possible, since he doesn’t want the last season to repeat when he had no decent replacements for some of the injured players. Big Sam can only hope that Lady Luck will smile on them and that his players remain fit, as that is the only way for Blackburn to realize their goals next season.
